Marvel Legends Infinite Series Guardians of The Galaxy Star-Lord

Greetings fellow toys buddies,

I’m back with another review of one-twelfth scale action figures and this time it came from Marvel Legends Infinite Series Guardians of The Galaxy Build-A-Figure The Groot line. Marvel Legends is a new line to my collection.

As I said on my previous post, on August I’d be reviewing the whole roster Guardians of The Galaxy movie version, starting with the leader of the so called cosmic avengers, Peter Quill A.K.A. the Star-Lord.

Let’s take a look at the packaged figure!

Starting from the Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie line, Marvel Legends came with boxed package just like Star Wars The Black Series 6 inch as you can see at the pictures bellow.
01

Since this is the first figure of this line, I’m going  to describe a thing or two about the packaging. The design of the packaging box resembles those of other Marvel Legends Infinite Series line. The caption in front of the box is not Marvel but ‘Guardians of The Galaxy’ with small Marvel logos on top of it. There is a box art of the boxed character on both left and right side. On the back of the box you could see a small bio of the Star-Lord character and list of other characters in this line.

Overall the packaging box looked great even though the cardboard material is not as good as those of Star Wars The Black Series 6″. One small note to you mint collectors.

Okay, let me unbox the Peter Quill…

02

The Star-Lord is packaged with the left arm part of Build-A-Figure Groot, numerous accessories, and an alternate unmasked head.

Okay, now we’re going to take a closer look at the figure.

03

Star-Lord is made of entirely new sculpts which is a surprise to me, being a jacket-wearing character, I always thought that he would be using the Marvel Legends Marvel Knight’s line The Punisher’s body with new headsculpt. The paint jobs are great and neat, I love the dirt details on the jacket, made the figure more realistic looking. The jacket is made of soft rubber material which slightly limited the leg movement.

Overall, the action figure captured the Guardians of The Galaxy movie version of Star-Lord quite nice!

Theses are some interesting details about this Star-Lord figure.

04

Star-Lord’s rocket boots is nicely sculpted and detailed. The rockets do not block the rocker-jointed ankle movement.

05

The masked head sculpt of Star-Lord is greatly sculpted and neatly painted. It resembles the movie version of Star-Lord but the color is quite off. Movie Star-Lord’s mask in the movie is metallic gray not black.

06

The unmasked head sculpt of Star-Lord is quite nice overall. The wavy hair is sculpted really nice and the paint applications are mostly good except for the eyes, it could be better. If only they got the eye part right, this head sculpt would represent Chris Pratt’s face better.

Guardians of The Galaxy Star-Lord have a lot of articulation points, as expected from more recent figures of Marvel Legend toylines. One thing that I dislike is the base materials of the figure itself. Newer Marvel Legends Infinite Series figures have even more ‘gummy’ or very rubber like materials than older Marvel Legends figures. This is a bad thing, especially at the elbow joints, one wrong move and you could twist and destroy the elbow joints. I also worry that the leg would bend by itself due to the ‘gummy’ materials.

Articulation points for this figure could be seen at the picture bellow.

07

Guardians of The Galaxy Star-Lord came with several accessories, namely:

– 1 alternative unmasked head sculpt

– 1 removable backpack

– 2 quad blasters

– 1 mysterious orb (watch the movie for more details, I’m not gonna spoil it to you here!)

– 1 yellow walkman (at first I thought it was a cigarettes box)

– 1 wireless headset

08

The mysterious orb is almost unwiedable by the figures, thanks to ‘gummy’ materials it is made of, the figure is having a hard time to hold almost every single of the given accessories. You need a glu-tack/tack-it to help it hold the accessories properly.

The headset also did not fit in the figure’s head as well as I wanted, but as an alternative you could put it on the figure as a neckband, as seen on the picture bellow.

09

As I stated before, without some glu-tack/tack-it, Star-Lord figure would not be able to hold it’s signature quad blaster. Apply some of those sticky materials and you could pose your Star-Lord figure wielding quad blasters such as these.

10

This is how I posed my Star-Lord figure for display. With quad blasters in each hands and the masked head sculpt. Although the color is off, I like the masked head sculpt better.

11

Summary: (7.5/10) A cool good looking movie-verse Star-Lord figure with some issues. It could be better!

Pros:

(+) 18 points of articulations allowing wide posing possibilities.

(+) Overall great all new sculpt, nice paint applications and details.

Cons:

(-) The paint job is neat overall but not too accurate on the masked head sculpt.

(-) The figure is made of ‘gummy’ materials, too easy to bend, so pose it carefuly.

(-) The figure could not hold almost all given accessories without some glu-tack/tack-it applications.

Thanks for reading my review toys buddies!

My next review would be another action figure from Marvel Legends Infinite Series Guardians of The Galaxy Build-A-Figure The Groot line, Drax The Destroyer.

Here are some shots of my Marvel Legends Infinite Series Guardians of The Galaxy Build-A-Figure The Groot line Star-Lord

Dammit, I forgot to bring my headset!

13

The Guardians of The Galaxy… No, they still do not have a battle cry.
