Marvel Legends Infinite Series Guardians of The Galaxy Drax

Greetings my collector buddies!

This is the second part of my Marvel Legends Infinite Series Guardians of The Galaxy Build-A-Figure The Groot line. On this occasion, probably the best figure of the whole line, Drax The Destroyer… or just Drax.

Here is the unboxed look of Drax.

01

I’m not going to prattle to much about the box design, you could read it in my previous review. Initially I hoped to make a comparison review with the earlier released Marvel Legends Drax comic version, unfortunately I’ve used up my money to pre-order Hot Toys 12″ Rocket Raccon-The Groot and Star-Lord.

Okay, time to unbox this figure!

02

As you can see, Drax came with the lower torso part of Build-A-Figure The Groot. The figure looked great and neatly painted. Now let’s take a closer look.

03

Okay, from the closer look we could see that Drax figure is really cool! It is made from all new sculpt, nothing from the previous Marvel Legends figures that I know of. Unlike the previously released Drax The Destroyer, this movie version figure of Drax has bulkier body and sculpted tattoos. Yes, as you seen on trailer or the movie itself, the movie version of Drax is one bulky character. This Drax figure capture the bulky part quite well but it is not as bulky as the ones we see on screen. The painted tattoos are really nice, it made the figure more movie accurate and well sculpted.

The paint applications are quite neat overall, there are no excess paint. I love the metallic gray details on the boots and the vermillion paint on the tattoos. There is a minor QC problem though, at the right shoulder there is a wrongly painted tattoo section, but it’s very minor and overall missable unless you look at it really close.

04

The headsculpt is good, really good and neatly painted. I love the stern expression, fitting for Drax The Destroyer. The head sculpt resemble Dave Batista quite accurately, the neck part is not bulky though.

Now we’re talking about articulations.

05

This movie version Drax figure has your run of the mile modern Marvel Legends articulations. The plus is this figure has a wide range of motion especially for the arms and legs. You could pose it with ease. There is still a problem with the gummy material, but since Drax is made thicker than other figure, it should be not that easy to bend its limbs.

Okay, this movie version Drax figure is great in both sculpt and articulations, and okay in paint applications. How about the accessories? Let’s find out.

06

Guardians of The Galaxy Drax only came with a pair of daggers. I have to say I’m a bit dissapointed with the given accessories. They could have given more, at least the rocket launcher used by Drax in the movie, or the axe from the comic book, the daggers could be some sort of sidearms or last resort weapons. Nevertheless, the daggers looked great, the sculpt is well detailed.

As some of you might know, one annoying problem with some modern Marvel Legends figure is most of those figures could not even hold their own weapons properly. In that situation tack-it or glu-tack is very handy.

How about Drax? Let’s find out.

07

There is no need for tack-it/glu-tack or similar substances, Drax figure could hold the weapon properly and really well. Sadly, when they actually made a figure with firm grips such as these, they only give you very small amount of accessories.

Just like we seen from the movie/trailer, Drax has sheats for his daggers at his boots. In this figure, the boot sheaths are well sculpted and worked properly to hold the daggers.

08

This is how I pose my Drax for my cabinet display. Overall, this is one of the best figure of Marvel Legends Infinite Series Guardians of The Galaxy Build-A-Figure The Groot line.

09

Summary: (8/10) If only he came with more screen accurate accessories at the very least, I’d easily give a 9 for this cool figure!

Pros:

(+) Great new sculpt and detailing, especially the sculpted tattoos. Good and decent paint applications.

(+) Many articulation points with wide range of motion allowing you a more extreme posing with this figure.

(+) The figure didn’t come with many, let alone screen accurate accessories but at least it could hold them really well.

Cons:

(-) He could go with more accessories, at least screen accurate ones.

(-) Gummy material still pose a minor problem, and the paint applications at some parts are of.

Next review would be the Rocket Raccoon.

Thanks for reading my review fellow collectors, and Happy Sunday!
