Kaiyodo Micro Yamaguchi Revol Mini 4″ Metal Gear Solid Solid Snake

Greetings fellow collectors,

I’m back with another action figure review. This one is the very first Japanese made/designed action figures ever to be reviewed in my blog.

Well, I’m not all Western-minded in action figures collecting, but character-minded. It is possible to see some SHFiguarts or Medicom action figures review on my blog in the near future. As long as I like the character well enough, there is a good chance that I’m gonna buy the figure!

Okay, on this occasion, I’ll review the newest line from Kaiyodo Revoltech, Kaiyodo Micro Yamaguchi Revol Mini 4″ Metal Gear Solid Solid Snake or in short Revol Mini Solid Snake.

Let’s take a look at the mint in box figure!

01

Please pardon the dented box, thanks to the dedicated mailing courier… *sigh*

Okay, I couldn’t say I like the design of the box, just look at it. Pink. It’s not just my personal taste, imagine you were going to a toy store and seeing this box from distance, those pinks would send you a false message, keeping you from the cool action figure inside the box!

Overall the box is informative enough, the back of the box showed you pretty much everything your Solid Snake figure could do. The 001 on the box means that this is the first Revol Mini figure in the whole line.

Okay, now I’ve unboxed the figure, let’s see what we’ve got here.

02

The Revol Mini figure is packed with many accessories, including display stands and interchangeable hands. Wow!

Okay, we got a nicely packed action figure with loads of accessories here, now let’s take a closer look on the figure itself.

03Overall, this is a good looking figure! The paint applications finishing is quite nice but still a bit bland, but the details on wrinkled part of Solid Snake’s uniform are quite awesome. The figure itself could stand properly but in a slightly odd fashion, it has something to do with the many articulation points and wide range of motion that this figure had.

Let’s take an even closer look…

04

The details on the figure’s face are really nice, but I don’t really dig the anime-esque look, I prefer the realistic ones but hey this is what Kaiyodo made or us.

Here is an interesting detail, just like what you see on the back part of the box, the figure has articulated eyeballs! Yeah, the eyeballs could move. For a toy of this size it could be categorized as a ‘toy engineering feat’ but also an inconvenience for me. Yeah, it’s kinda hard to put the eyeballs on the proper position, mostly you’ll end up with misaligned eyes or blank white eyes. Perhaps it was just me, still this is a really cool feature. All you have to do is try to snap the figure’s face off and align those eyeballs!

Japanese 6 inches action figures are known for being even more possible than their western counterparts (SHFiguarts, Figma, Revoltech, etc). This Revol Mini Solid Snake action figure stands around 4 inches tall, with the same articulation points and wide range of motions, just like the 6 inches Revoltech figure.

05

Okay, we got a highly articulated figure, cool! Now let’s see about its accessories.

Revolmini Solid Snake came with:

– 1 in-game accurate FAMAS Assault Rifle

– 1 in-game accurate SOCOM Pistol

– 1 in-game accurate Claymore mine

– 1 in-game accurate binocular.

– 1 cigarette (Very easy to be lost! Make sure to take care of yours as good as you can!)

– 1 white paddle-like thing (I’m not sure what this is for, but I use it to move the eyeballs after opening the head/face part).

– 1 removable empty holster.

– 1 removable pistol-holding holster (Non-removable).

– 1 pair of clenched fist hand.

– 1 pair of weapon-wielding hand.

– 1 rifle-wielding right hand.

– 1 cigarette-holding left hand.

– 1 clear plastic static base.

– 1 clear plastic dynamic/action base.

06

Plenty of accessories, right? I’m quite satisfied with all those accessories, but I would be even more satisfied with even more game-accurate accessories. Where is the PSG-1 Sniper Rifle? The Stinger? Or the Nikita guided-missile launcher? I wish there would be an accessories pack for this figure, containing all game accurate goodness.

First, I’m gonna try the removable holster. It could snap on and off the holes on the leg firmly and quite easily. This is a good minor details, you could use the pistol-holding holster for all-geared up look, or the empty holster if you were posing your solid snake with the SOCOM pistol, just for realism sake. 😉

07

Next, let’s see how natural could the Revolmini Solid Snake do a smoking pose with its cigarette-holding hand.

As you can see on the picture bellow, the smoking pose is quite natural!

08

Next, let’s try posing the figure with the Claymore mine!

Even the very well articulated figures such as this one couldn’t do a crouching mine laying pose, but this kneel mine laying pose is good enough for me.

09

Okay, where moving on to the binocular. There is a small peghole on one of the right hand. It fit the binocular peg quite nicely and allowing you to pose a proper binocular-holding pose.

10

Okay, now we’re talking about things that matters. The primary weapons.

The Solid Snake figure could hold both the SOCOM pistol and FAMAS rifle well.

You could remove the silencer on the SOCOM pistol if you want. As for the FAMAS rifle, it is a bit too bulky but still wield-able by the figure. Being such a bulky weapon, I wish the FAMAS rifle had more feature, such as removable magazine.

11

Okay, Solid Snake didn’t do this in game as far as I know of, but this is the ‘gun-bristling all geared-up’ pose of RevolvMini Solid Snake!

12

Kaiyodo gave us two kinds of standbases for this Revol Mini Solid Snake figure. While the figure could stand properly on its own, it would be better and safer if you pose the figure in your shelves with its standbases.

First, the static standbase. It’s just like the GI Joe standbases, it serves to display your figure in a non-dynamic pose in your shelves. You could still pose your figure in dynamic/action poses though.

13

Next, the adjustable dynamic standbases! Just as its name, this is the standbase you use when you wanted to make some action, jumping, or more extreme poses in general. If only the standbases came with two foot holders, you could do extreme poses from your wildest imaginations.

14

Okay, some of you might be really excited that Revol Mini lines is made in 4 inch or roughly one-eighteenth/one-seventeenth scale.

So, I took this shot of Revol Mini Solid Snake and modern GI Joe figures together. Well, the Revol Mini couldn’t really blend into the GI Joe line, the figure is simply too tall, even taller than that gigantic Retaliation Ultimate Roadblock figure.

Even though Revol Mini Solid Snake didn’t really fit with your GI Joes, rest assured for there is already this guy to play your Solid Snake with, and perhaps more Metal Gear Solid figure would be released for Revol Mini line in the near future.

15

Okay, we came to the end of my current review. Have fun with this Revol Mini figures if you got yourself one! 😀 16

Summary: (8/10) If you like the good old PSX Metal Gear Solid game, or 4 inches articulated action figures, get your hands on this!

Pros:

(+) Great sculpt and articulations. The figure is very well articulated!

(+) Loads of game accurate accessories! For a $25 figure I wish it came with other in-game weapons such as Nikita rocket launcher or PSG-1 sniper rifle.

Cons:

(-) The paint job is a bit bland to my taste, I personally didn’t like the manga/anime look of the head sculpt, wish they made the realistic version.

(-) The figure is made of sturdy materials, but the articulated parts are kind of easy to get loose.

Thanks for reading my latest review fellow toys collector.

The clue for my next review is ‘Greg Capullo’ 😉

  1. Nice review. It could be better if you do a comparison with other 3.75 figure. Looking at how big he is compared to other 3.75 figure, The Iron Man version of Revol Mini will do the justice the Hasbro never did he he

  2. hey i just purchased one of these on amazon for like 95 bucks, and I want to make sure i didn’t get ripped off. does anybody know if kaiyodo has a stamp or number or anything that shows whether or not a figure is authentic? i’m a collector and don’t open my figures, but i can send photos of the box and everything to anyone who would be willing to help since this is only my second figure my kaiyodo.
