Designer’s Series Greg Capullo Talon

Greetings fellow toys buddies, and Merry Christmas for those who celebrates it and Happy New Year 2015!

I’m back with another action figure review, and on this occasion it’s another new line that I collect (Yeah I collect 7 lines now… duh… :/ )
As you might knew I recently collected Marvel Legends & Marvel Select lines, Yes I am into Marvel comics. And DC comics either, I don’t take sides for any of the big two as I did spend some good time reading both of them growing up. I like them both.

One of the most recent lines that I collect is the DC Collectibles Designer’s Series Greg Capullo line. There are many DC action figures out there, there are many lines from both DC Collectibles and Mattel. Of all good DC action figures lines out there, I’ve chosen solely the Designer’s Series Greg Capullo for my collection because of two reasons: 1. I have to pick one of the best looking-articulated-detailed line. 2. I was a Spawn collector and still a Spawn reader, so I’m no stranger to Greg Capullo’s artworks.

So, here are the first DC Collectibles Designer’s Series Greg Capullo figures that I bought, I’m unboxing it for this review. It is a figure of an assassin from The Court of Owls. The Talon.

Let’s see how good or bad the packaging of this line is. Since this is the first figure I’ve reviewed for this line, I’m gonna prattle a bit about the packaging. Here is the figure unboxed.

01

We got clear mica parts on the front and side part of the box, giving us a nice view of the figure inside, and we got an artwork of the character inside of the box at the other side of the box. The back part of the box showed all other figures released on the current wave.

It’s not a bad box design, it’s good but don’t looked as good as Hasbro’s Star Wars Black Series 6″ boxes. But it is surely much more sturdier, yes, the box is made of better and not so easy to rip materials. The packaging is quite simple overall, not bad. If you were a MOC/MIB collectors, this would still looked good for you to display.

Okay, now I’m unboxing this figure, here is the Greg Capullo’s Talon recently unboxed.

02

The figure looked really good. The paint applications and finishing are really neat overall. The Talon itself is not a bright colored characters and DC Collectibles captured the looks well. Look at the throwing knifes belt, the Court of Owls badge, and the gloves, the details are really good and neatly painted!

This Greg Capullo line figures are made of

03

Let’s take a closer look on the figure. The details on the hood are also great and neatly painted. I wish the figure came with removable hood, but this is acceptable, at least it looked really good. The Court of Owl badge on the bandolier also looked great.

04How about the articulations?

Usually action figures of DC line didn’t interest me since they are generally not as articulated as Marvel Legends or Marvel Select counterparts, yeah lot’s of Mattel and most DC Collectibles action figures are lacking ball-jointed legs. The Arkham Assylum or Injustice line looked really good, but swivel-jointed leg in 2014? Not for me.

Lucky for me, this Greg Capullo line has better articulated figures than other lines. Yes, my Talon figure has ball-jointed legs now… even though the joint itself has very limited motion range compared to Marvel Legends or Marvel Select line. It kinda sucks for me, but this is an improvement.

05

Okay, to compensate its lack of articulations, Greg Capullo Series Talon came with some cool accessories:

– 2 machetes.

– 2 knifes.

– 1 Court of Owls mask (No, it’s not wearable!).

– 1 non-removable throwing knife bandolier.

– 2 non-removable machete sheath

– 1 non-removable knife holster.

06

The knife holster worked well with the given knifes, but do be careful when you’re moving the arms or the torso, the knife could bend quite easily.

07

The machete sheaths also worked well, it could hold the machete firmly in addition to make your Talon figure looked even meaner.

08

The Court of Owls mask is not wearable, but you could still use it for some poses such as this one.

09

This is another thing that I like from this figure, it could hold its weapons firmly in both hands! If only the figure were more articulated, you could reenact some cool combat scenes from the comic book.

10

Both knifes or machetes, the figure could hold it really well!

11

Okay, this is for some of you who like to do action figure crossovers (DC vs Marvel?). I compared the Greg Capullo Series Talon with a regularly sized Marvel Legends figure. As you could see on the picture bellow, the Talon figure is around a head taller, roughly 7 inches tall. If you really wanted to do some crossovers, best do it with Marvel Select figures which are mostly around 7 inches tall.

12

Overall, this is a solidly made figure with great details but kinda mediocre articulations for 2014/2015 standards. Still if you were into Greg Capullo’s art and wanted to see his characters materialized in 3D form, go collect this line!

13

Summary: (7/10) Mediocre articulations are its only downside!

Pros:

(+) Great sculpt, details, and paint applications.

(+) Good working accessories.

Cons:

(-) I wish the figure were as well-articulated as a Marvel Legends figure.

(-) The figure and its accessories are made of hard but kind of brittle materials. Be careful when posing or displaying it!

Thanks for reading my latest review fellow toys collector.

For the next review, stay tuned for more 1/18th scale surprises!
